“Library” in English and “librairie” in French are what linguists call “false friends”: they are words that sound and look similar, but have different meanings. The French word for “library” is “bibliothèque” (which, by the way, can also mean “bookshelf”), whereas “librairie” translates as “bookshop” or “bookstore.”
Our bookshop does not buy used books and only sells new books. You may have more luck at Librairie l’Échange or at La Bouquinerie du Plateau!
If you’re looking for a book on this webpage, you’re not going to find it, as this is not a transactional website. We encourage you to contact us with the title of the book, and if you also happen to have its ISBN, that’s even better!
If you can’t find a book on michelfortin.leslibraires.ca, it probably isn’t there. To be honest, it would be a bit of a stretch to say that is our transactional website: though you can definitely buy books from us through it, it is not strictly speaking ours. We do not control what books show up on it, for instance, which means you may find books that are generally distributed in Canada, but not books that we import ourselves. To order those, it’s best to contact us instead!
Is it a book to learn a language? If it is, tell us more about it: we make no promises, but we’ll at least consider it! If it is not a book to learn a language, there are just so many other bookstores that would be a better fit for it; we encourage you to contact one of those instead!

Librairie Michel Fortin owes its name to its founder, Michel Fortin, who was the owner from 1982 to 2020.
For most of these years, he was supported by Ronald Thibault, who started as a bookseller, then went from being a manager to an associate, to finally become the owner in 2020.
Ronald Thibault is also the president of the Association des librairies informatisées, known for the bookstore management software ALIBI.
